Phil Kessel has started allocating the money he received for being picked last in the NHL's all-star draft.

The Maple Leafs forward donated $5,000 to the Brendan Burke Internship, USA Hockey announced Tuesday.

The internship was established in honour of the late son of Toronto GM Brian Burke, who worked with Miami (Ohio) University's men's hockey team and was killed in a car accident in February 2009.

Under the program, USA Hockey provides an annual 12-month internship for a recent college graduate interested in pursuing a career in hockey operations.

Kessel received $20,000 from the NHL Foundation and NHLPA's Goals and Dreams Fund to give to charity after the all-star draft in Raleigh, N.C., on Jan. 28.

At the time, he indicated that he wanted to give some of the money to a cancer charity.
